Marine Equipment Directive-96/98/EC(MED)
The Marine Equipment Directive 96/98/EC (MED)
as amended by directive 98/85/EC came into force
on January 1st 1999 and covers the safety aspects
of equipment (such as Fire Dampers for Fire

flags of the European Union Member States.
The Directive was established to ensure that equip-
ment which must comply with international conven-

agreed by the International Maritime Organisation,
also meet standards of Safety and Performance for
floating vessels across the Member States of the
EU.
The Directive has been a mandatory requirement
since January 1st 2001.
For Marine vessels registered to an EU member
state, all Wozair Fire and Gas Dampers carry the
Marine Equipment Directive Mark of Conformity
(Wheelmark).
